Kentucky to the World (KTW), in partnership with the Kentucky Science Center, will host a student-focused virtual event featuring Louisville neurosurgeon and neuroscientist Dr. Ajmal Zemmar.

The program, “Echoes of Life: Lessons From the Dying Brain,” will take place on October 15 at 4 p.m. at The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. The event is part of the KTW Republic Bank Speaker Series and highlights Dr. Zemmar’s internationally recognized research.

Inspiring Kentucky Students

Kentucky to the World’s collaboration with The Gatton Academy reflects the nonprofit’s mission to inspire students as they step into their roles as global citizens. By providing direct access to groundbreaking thinkers, KTW helps young Kentuckians connect cultural pride with intellectual ambition.

“We are excited to partner with Kentucky to the World, providing students the opportunity to see how Kentucky voices and ideas resonate far beyond state lines,” said Dr. Lynette Breedlove, director of The Gatton Academy. “We want students to know that their own stories and innovations can help shape the world.”

About Dr. Ajmal Zemmar

Dr. Zemmar made national headlines in 2022 for his pioneering research into the phenomenon of “life flashing before your eyes” in the moments before death.

During the KTW program, he will translate this complex science into life lessons that resonate with students and broader audiences, prompting reflection on the essential question:

“When our lives are finished, what do you want the replay to include?”
